Hadith 21-2

حَدَّثَنا أَبُو مُحَمَّد جَعْفَرِ بْنِ النعيم الشاذانِي رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: حَدَّثَنا أَحْمَدِ بْنِ إِدْرِيس إِبْراهيمِ بْنِ هاشِمٍ، عَن عَلِىِّ بْنِ مَعبَد، عَن الحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خالِد، عَن أَبي الحَسَن عَلاىِّ بْنِ‏ِلرِّضا عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، عَن أَبيهِ، عَن‏آبائِهِ، عَن عَلِيِ‏ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ قالَ‏ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ‏ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ يَا عَلِيُّ لَقَدْ عَاتَبَنِي رِجَالٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فِي أَمْرِ فَاطِمَةَ وَقَالُوا خَطَبْنَاهَا إِلَيْكَ فَمَنَعْتَنَا وَزَوَّجْتَ عَلِيّاً فَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَنَا مَنَعْتُكُمْ وَزَوَّجْتُهُ بَلِ اللَّهُ مَنَعَكُمْ وَزَوَّجَهُ فَهَبَطَ عَلَيَّ جَبْرَئِيلُ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ جَلالُهُ يَقُولُ لَوْ لَمْ أَخْلُقْ عَلِيّاً لَمَا كَانَ لِفَاطِمَةَ ابْنَتِكَ كُفْوٌ عَلَى وَجْهِ الأَرْضِ آدَمُ فَمَنْ دُونَهُ. و حَدَّثَنا بِهذَا الْحَدِيث أَحْمَدِ بْنِ زِيادِ بْنِ جَعْفَر الْهَمَذانيّ رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُ حَدَّثَنا عَلِىِّ بْنِ إِبراهِيمِ بْنِ‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَن عَلِىِّ بْنِ معبد، عَن الحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خالِد عَنِ الرِّضا عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ عَنْ آبائِهِ، عَن عَلِىِّ بْنِ أَبي طالِب‏ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، عَن رَسُولاللَّهِ‏ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ. وَقَدْ أَخْرَجْتُ ما رويته فِي هذَا الْمَعْنى فِي كِتاب مولد فاطِمَة عَلَيْهَا السَّلاَمُ وَفضائلها.

Abu Muhammad Ja’far ibn al-Na’eem al-Shazani - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Ahmad ibn Idris quoted on the authority of Ibrahim ibn Hashem, on the authority of Ali ibn Ma’bad, on the authority of Al-Husayn ibn Khalid, on the authority of Abil Hassan Ali ibn Musa Al-Ridha’ (a.s.), on the authority of his father (a.s.), on the authority of his forefathers (a.s.), on the authority of Ali (a.s.) that God’s Prophet (S) told him, ‘O Ali! Some of the men of Quraysh tribe have blamed me regarding (the Blessed Lady) Fatima (a.s.). They say that they asked me to marry off (the Blessed Lady) Fatima (a.s.) to them, but I married her off to you. I told them, ‘By God, I was not the one who did that. It was the Sublime God who did not accept you and married her off to Ali. Gabriel descended upon me and said, O Muhammad! God - the Exalted the Magnificent - says, ‘Had I not created Ali (a.s.), there would have been no equal for your daughter (the Blessed Lady) Fatima (a.s.) on the Earth from Adam to the end.’” This tradition has also been narrated by Ahmad ibn Ziyad ibn Ja’far al-Hamadani - may God be pleased with him, on the authority of Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashem, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ali ibn Ma’bad, on the authority of Al-Husayn ibn Khalid, on the authority of Al-Ridha’ (a.s.), on the authority of his forefathers (a.s.), on the authority of Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.), on the authority of God’s Prophet (S).
