Hadith 30-12

حَدَّثَنا أَحْمَدِ بْنِ عَلِىِّ بْنِ إِبراهِيمِ بْنِ هاشِم رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: حَدَّثَني أَبي، عَن جَدِّي هاشِمٍ، عَن عَلِىِّ بْنِ معبد عَنْ الحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خالِد قالَ: قالَ الرِّضا عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ سَمِعْتُ أَبي يَحْدُثَ، عَن أَبِيهِ‏ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ أَنَّ أَوَّلُ سُورَةٍ نَزَلَتْ (بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ) وَآخِرُ سُورَةٍ نَزَلَتْ (إِذا جاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ).

Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashem - may God be pleased with him - narrated that his father quoted on the authority of his grandfather Ibrahim ibn Hashem, on the authority of Ali ibn Ma’bad, on the authority of Al-Husayn ibn Khalid, “Al-Ridha’ (a.s.) narrated that his father (a.s.) quoted on the authority of his father (a.s.) that the first verse which was revealed was, ‘In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Proclaim! (or read!) in the Name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created’ [4] and the last verse that was revealed was, ‘When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory.’” [5]
